First off, thank you. Seriously.
Thank you to everyone using VuArchives, and thank you especially to all our Premium users out there. You’re the reason this project is still alive and kicking.
Now, on to the V2 update.
First off, I know it’s taking a bit longer than expected. And for that, I apologize.
But, it’s not just a simple update. It’s not just “new buttons, new layout.” It’s much, much more than that, it’s a full backend rewrite.
This means that I’ve rebuilt the core system that runs everything behind the scenes. It’s how the site works, how it’s supposed to function, and how it delivers that information to you.
When VuArchives launched in 2024, I never thought it’d get this big. It started off as a small project, and then, well, you see what it’s become and with that, it’s also become apparent that the original system has its limitations. And these limitations need to be fixed, properly, not just patched.
If you’ve been around since the very beginning, you’ve seen how much the site’s improved so far. And with V2, you’ll see the biggest jump yet.
Now, I’m only one person, and while I work on this every single day, sometimes 10+ hours, I also need breaks, you know, to keep me somewhat sane.
So, what’s coming in V2?
Some of the biggest changes include:
And that’s just part of it.
About the Feedback Form:
We knew we were going to get a lot of criticism. We really did. We expected it. We even hoped for it. Because we know that criticism leads to improvements.
And yet, out of all the feedback we received, about 80% of it was positive. We were glad to see that, but we were really hoping for more of the negative stuff to help us improve even further.
One of the biggest changes we were requested to make was:
We just can’t do that, sorry. Those are very costly services to run!
We are currently using about 16TB of data scanning private rooms and auto scanning rooms. That’s a lot of bandwidth and server resources, and we pay for all of it and we pay for it all out of our own pockets.
On top of that, there are the servers. We have a lot of users on VuArchives. We have far more free users than we do Premium users. Every time someone searches, scans, or accesses something in our archive, there’s a cost associated with it. We can’t afford to run on weak servers and Premium users are what keep those costly servers running.
Broken / Inaccurate Services
One of the biggest changes we were requested to make was with regards to services like the Time Tracker.
Much work has been done in improving these features in V2. Your feedback also helped identify weak spots that required attention.
The same is also true for the loading of avatar outfit images, which may appear blank at times. Some bugs only manifest themselves when there are 13-15k people using the service daily. One man does not make an army, you see.
Pricing Update (Important)
I also want to be transparent about something.
First off, there will likely be a pricing update with V2.
You will still be able to subscribe for $10 and have access to all the data – you will not be locked out of archives or core information.
However, for the more advanced and resource-intensive tools such as:
there is a strong possibility that this will be raised to $15.
The truth is, we simply cannot sustain these high-cost services at the current price point long-term. I am doing everything in my power to keep these prices as low as possible for everyone, but the platform has simply grown to a point where sustainability is an issue, as I already addressed we are using around 16-17TB of data each month.
To all the people helping VuArchives, thank you.
V2 is being built right, not fast. When it’s done, you’ll see why it’s taking so long.
Thank you for the patience
We’ve made major improvements to the Private Room Scanner:
Much faster: scans up to 10,000 rooms in under 1 minute
Duo Search: scan two users’ private rooms at the same time
AP outfits: now shows AP outfits (even if you don’t have AP on VU), just like the Historical Private Room Scanner and Historical Room Viewer
Fixes
Historical Private Room Tracker: fixed a rare issue where some rooms weren’t being marked as closed. We’ve addressed previous edge cases and this should now be fully resolved.
Performance
Outfits: images now load noticeably faster in Historical Room Viewer and Historical Private Room Viewer.
Small fix for Historical Room Viewer and Historical Private Room Tracker outfits: The issue with outfits not loading or taking an extended time to load in the Historical Room Viewer and Historical Private Room Tracker has been resolved. Outfit loading should now be significantly faster and work as expected.
Some users may have experienced error 524. This was due to necessary cache resets and service restarts to apply bug fixes. While these interruptions are sometimes unavoidable, we do our best to minimize them. Thank you for your patience!
We’re committed to delivering more updates and new features after we finish fixing bugs and ensuring stability. If you have any issues, suggestions, or feedback, please reach out via DM, website ticket, or Discord.
